Here is why public schools have not taught
the relationship of The Declaration Independence to
The United States Constitution and
The Constitution of Washington state,
or any other state Constitution.
Horace Mann (4 May 1796 to 2 Aug 1859) the famous educator taught:
“What the church has been for medieval man the public school must become for democratic and rational man. God will be replaced by the concepts of the common good….The common schools….shall create a more far-seeing intelligence and a pure morality than has ever existed among communities of men.” (See Klicka, The Right Choice—Home Schooling, pp. 32, 80-94)
John Dewey (October 20, 1859 – June 1, 1952), the father of progressive education, stated:
“Faith in the prayer-hearing God is an unproved and outmoded faith. There is no God and there is no soul. Hence, there are no needs for the props of traditional religion.” (John Dewey, “soul-searching,” Teacher Magazine, September 1933, p. 33)
Dewey joined the faculty of the Teachers College at Columbia University. He teamed up with James Earl Russell, the dean of the Teachers College, and together they worked for a quarter of a century diligently building Columbia University into the largest institution in the world for the training of teachers.
Dewey formulated the theory of improving education by making “small incremental changes.” Text-book writers have used Dewey’s theory and have progressively removed from text books references to God, as mentioned in the state constitutions, The Declaration of Independence, and the United States Constitution.
Text-book writers that have used Dewey’s theory include The US Department of Education which funds “We The People – The Citizen and the Constitution.” This book is used in all states (except Texas and Alaska). And subtly guides student and teachers into promoting “World Citizenship.” It asks the question: “Do you think that world citizenship will be possible in your lifetime?” The book also states: “The U.S. Bill of Rights is a document of the eighteenth century, reflecting the issues and concerns of the age in which it was written." Many teachers have not been taught the principles that motivated educators such as Mann, Dewey and text book publishers. Thus, we can understand why many teachers have never been taught the principles that our founding fathers used in framing our government
Children must be exposed to the founding fathers’ original writings and speeches.
During the Constitutional Convention Benjamin Franklin stated:
“I have lived, sir, a long time; and the longer I live the more convincing proofs I see of this truth – that God governs in the affairs of men.”
The preambles to all 50 state Constitutions give credit to God for our liberties, as does the Declaration of Independence.
The Thomas Jefferson Center for Constitutional studies estimates that there have been $1,200,000,000 spent on publishing “hate America” books and books that “attack the morals of the Founding Fathers.” These books falsely claim that the founding fathers were Atheist or Deists. They have done if for so long that many educators and people now believe it.
To counter these attacks, Wall Builders has a large library of historical documents. There are many other sources of information.
The National Center for Constitutional Studies and the Thomas Jefferson Center for Constitutional Studies have books such as:
- The Real Thomas Jefferson (with index of his writings and speeches)
- The Real George Washington (with index of his writings and speeches)
- The Real Benjamin Franklin (with index of his writings and speeches)
- The Making of America, The Substance and Meaning of the Constitution
- Soldiers, Statesmen & Heroes
- The 5000 Year Leap
- A guide for Learning and Teaching The Declaration of Independence and the U.S. Constitution
Thomas Jefferson sums up our problems today with:
“I know of no safe depositor of the ultimate powers of [a] society but the people themselves; and if we think them not enlightened enough to exercise their control with a wholesome discretion, the remedy is not to take if from them, but to inform their discretion by education. This is the true corrective of abuses of the constitutional power.”
George Washington Stated:
“A primary object…should be the education of our youth in the science of government. In a republic, what species of knowledge can be equally important? And what duty more pressing…than communicating it to those who are to be the future guardians of the liberties of the country?”
It is up to us, We The People, to make sure our children are taught the truth about The Declaration of Independence, the United States Constitution, and the Constitution of Washington state. If we fail to do this, our Constitutional Republic will fail!
